“Mrs. Greer’s Skinny Boy Charlie” came to WAKR in August of 1956 to do the “Top of the Morning Show” (5-10 a.m.) In the afternoon from 12:30 to 2, he hosted “The Charlie Greer Show. Previously he had worked in Cincinnati and Dayton . In 1957, he was named Top Announcer in the nation by Slenderella International. In 1959, he won first prize in the Ray-o-Vac Announcer of the Year contest. Also, in 1959, the Akron Area Dodge Dealers named him Disc Jockey of the Year. He left WAKR in 1960 to work at WABC, New York . After working there for nine years and in other New York area stations, he returned to WAKR in 1973, where he remained until 1980. Charlie retired and was living with his wife, Amy Lou, on a small farm in Monroe County, Ohio, until his death. |
