Burnett
Retired News Director Jim
Burnett joined WHBC as a News Reporter in 1953 and was appointed News
Director in 1966. Prior to this affiliation, he had worked for five years at
a Youngstown radio station.
Under Burnett’s direction, WHBC News
received many citations for excellence including the RTNDA’s Best
Continuing Coverage of a Story for the Northeastern Quadrant of the Nation.
The Department also won many awards from the Ohio Associated Press in all
categories.
Burnett served as a Regional Director,
Vice President and President of the Ohio Associated Press Broadcasters. He
was a Board Member of the Canton Chapter of The American Red Cross and the
Canton Urban League. He is a member of the Society of Professional
Journalists and Sigma Delta Chi.
