Mary
Helen Bowers
Mary Helen Bowers is a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College with a BSM
degree and also Teachers College,
Columbia
University
with an MA. During her forty-year career, she was a Music Teacher,
Supervisor of Vocal Music and a Music Curriculum Specialist for Akron Public
Schools. During her broadcasting career, she worked at WAPS 89.1 FM on a
series of Music Lessons for classrooms, Kindergarten through Third grades.
For twenty years, Mary Helen wrote, sang, and played piano and narrated on
tape. These tapes were used to help
Akron
Public School
teachers with their classes. Since her retirement, she has served as
President of Tuesday Musical Club,
Akron
Symphony Guild and four years as President of the
Ohio
Federation of Music Clubs.
She is currently the President of the
Broadcasters Hall of Fame, an active member of the
First
United
Methodist
Church
, and also sings in the
Akron
Symphony Chorus.
